Some situations arise that might be outside the normal functions of cleaning
or sealing of paving. These situations are more likely to involve special cleaning after
some form of contamination, where lack of maintenance is a major factor or where
geographical factors conspire to make things such as weed and algal growth
worse.
Such situations might include:
- Residue left by river/foul water flooding
- Mud and other deposits left following construction
- Routine cleansing/disinfecting following outbreak of infection in stables, kennels, livestock units and the like
- Cleaning of waste storage and similar areas
- Removal of algal and other growth in damp dark areas
- Cleansing of fuel storage/delivery areas
Whilst the reasons for cleaning are still likely to be appearance and safety, the safety element is probably more important. The situations above and the need to do something about them are likely to be significantly influenced by Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Animal Welfare and other legislation.
Two recent assignments we have undertaken were:
- Cleaning and disinfecting stabling and yard areas for an international animal welfare charity after consultation with the veterinary surgeon
- Removal of algal and other growth from an area that saw little direct sunlight and was constantly damp (pictures of before and after below)
